Level 1 - Maintained IPS Security Service

Customers installing and deploying Intrusion Prevention Systems (IPS) in their network infrastructure generally experience two categories of interaction with their IPS devices. The first category is maintaining the overall intrusion prevention solution. This step ensures that the solution is always up to date, running at peak performance, and automatically protecting the IT infrastructure. The second category is incident response and corrective action. Top Layer’s TopMSS Maintained IPS Security Service provides the first category of service, eliminating the need for customer staff to perform maintenance of the IPS solution.

Top Layer’s Security Operation Center (SOC):

• Installs all software updates for all deployed IPS 5500 units, Network Security Analyzer (NSA) software, and IPS Controller (IPSC) software
• Applies TopResponse Protection Packs* (with rule, signature, and block list updates)
• Implements actions described in TopResponse Security Advisories* (e.g., enabling/disabling IPS rules to obtain optimum protection)
• Monitors the status of the IPS 5500 hardware
• Initiates Advanced Hardware Replacement (AHR) process in the event of a hardware failure**
• Ensures NSA report and alert generation and delivery are functioning properly
• Performs IPS solution backup service after each configuration change and sends monthly backup CD-ROM
• Delivers weekly IPS status reports via email
• Services performed between 8am and 8pm US Eastern Time
