IDS Balancer Earns Common Criteria Certification

Top Layer Networks (www.TopLayer.com), a provider of globally proven intrusion prevention solutions, today announced that its IDS Balancer has achieved Common Criteria certification, a critical requirement for many government purchases of network security products.

Top Layer’s intrusion prevention technology is currently installed throughout several federal agencies in the Department of Defense and civilian sectors, as well as state governments.

The Common Criteria evaluation process was created to evaluate IT product conformance to international security standards. Officially known as the NIAP Common Criteria Evaluation and Validation Scheme (CCEVS), the program is a partnership between public and private sectors designed to help government organizations select commercial IT products that meet their security requirements http://niap.nist.gov/cc-scheme/st/ST_VID3019.htm.

“The goal of Common Criteria certification is to establish a baseline of quality that translates into a higher degree of protection from the growing number and intensity of cyber threats regardless of physical location around the globe,” said Jean Schaffer, director of the Validation Body for NIAP Common Criteria Evaluation and Validation Scheme. “Products that have passed Common Criteria certification enable organizations to be confident that they are deploying security measures that have been well-tested and intensely scrutinized to perform as they are written in their Security Target.”

The IDS Balancer is an aggregation, filtering and load balancing appliance that reduces the capital, maintenance, and operations expenditures for network monitoring solutions such as network Intrusion Detection Systems (IDS), network analyzers, forensics systems and content inspection engines, while increasing monitoring coverage.
